DePaul has some great opportunities to learn more about assessment and hone your assessment skills!  This winter, we will offer five different assessment workshops!

Introduction to Assessment at DePaul University

DePaul has a long-standing history of quality assessment of our curricular and co-curricular programs.  This workshop will introduce participants to the elements of high-quality assessment, as well as a background in where we derive our assessment standards and practices.

Cultural Competency in Assessment

DePaul’s students possess myriad identities (racial, cultural, gender, sexual orientation, religious, socioeconomic status, etc.), contributing to the university’s multicultural environment.  The diversity of the campus population is an essential consideration when conducting program assessments.  This workshop aims to prepare assessors to perform culturally competent assessment by employing intercultural awareness, knowledge, and skills.

Writing and Revising Learning Outcomes

This workshop is for those writing new, or revising their current, learning outcomes.  We will explore best practices in creating learning outcomes, including the steps involved in writing learning outcomes, the characteristics of well-written learning outomes, and potential uses for learning outcomes beyond assessment purposes.

Direct Assessment of Student Learning

This workshop will provide an overview of the differences between direct and indirect assessment of student learning. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm and develop techniques for implementing direct assessment and using rubrics to assess student learning in both academic and co-curricular settings.

Assessment Planning

The key to maximizing the value (and minimizing the pain) of assessment is effective planning.  In this workshop, we will review elements of an effective assessment plan, as well as strategies to ensure assessment projects run smoothly.
